Why a transparent signature is better

A signature on a transparent background drops onto letters, contracts, and certificates without an ugly white rectangle around it. It sits directly on the page — over coloured backgrounds, letterheads, or other text — exactly as if you had signed there in pen.

To get there, the white (or off-white) paper behind your signature has to become transparent. This tool keys out the paper by brightness: light pixels become see-through, the dark ink stays, and a soft edge keeps the strokes smooth. The result is exported as a PNG, the format that supports transparency.

How to make a signature transparent

1. Open your signature. Use a photo or scan on plain, light paper for the cleanest result.
2. Remove the background. Keep 'Remove background' on and slide the threshold until the paper disappears and only the ink remains.
3. Trim and check. Auto-trim removes the empty margins. The checkerboard preview shows you the transparent areas.
4. Download PNG. Keep the format on PNG so the transparency is saved, then download.

Get the cleanest cut-out

Sign in dark ink on bright white paper and photograph it in even light with no shadows. The bigger the brightness gap between ink and paper, the cleaner the transparent edge. If a faint paper tint remains, raise the threshold a little.
