Useful tools, explained honestly.
Utills is a growing collection of free guides and tools for the everyday digital tasks people actually deal with — wrangling PDFs and images, converting files, and quick calculations.
Why Utills exists
Most "how do I do this with a file?" searches lead to pages that are either thin, plastered with ads, or quietly trying to sell you software you don't need. Utills is the opposite of that. Each guide is written to answer a real question completely and honestly: the steps that work, the free options worth knowing, and the trade-offs nobody mentions.
Alongside the guides, we're building a set of free online tools — fast, free, and no sign-up. Wherever it's technically possible, the work runs right in your browser. How any data associated with the tools is handled is described in our privacy policy.
What you'll find here
Utills is organized around the everyday jobs people actually search for. Today the site covers:
- 30+ image tools — crop, resize, compress, rotate and flip, convert between formats, remove backgrounds, read EXIF data, run OCR, build QR codes, add borders or watermarks, blur and redact, and more. Browse them all on the image tools page.
- Unit converters — length, weight and mass, temperature, and data storage, with every unit pair given its own page and worked examples. Start at the converters directory.
- Step-by-step guides for PDFs, images, text, and conversions — the written companion to the tools, explaining not just how to do a task but which approach is right for your situation.
A full, categorised index lives on the all tools page, and new tools and guides are added regularly.
How the tools work
Most of the image tools are designed to do their work in your own browser using standard web technology — the HTML canvas and modern JavaScript APIs — so the heavy lifting happens on your device rather than on a remote server. The unit converters run entirely as client-side calculations. A few of the more demanding tools may use a server step; the specifics of how data is handled for any tool are set out in our privacy policy. Everything is free to use, works in a normal web browser, and needs no account, install, or extension.
Who runs it
Utills is built and written by Pawan Bishnoi, a software developer and the site's founder and editor. He develops every tool, writes every guide from hands-on testing — not paraphrased from other sites — and updates them when tools or steps change. You can see his background, other writing, and contact details on the author page.
How we stay free
Guides and core tools are free to use. The site is supported by unobtrusive advertising. Ads never influence what we recommend, and we don't sell your personal data. You can read more in our editorial policy and privacy policy.
