Why forms reject your signature
Online forms are fussy about the signature you upload: a phone photo is too big, full of grey paper, and the wrong dimensions, so the form bounces it for being over the size limit or 'not a clear signature'. The fix is to crop to just the ink, clean off the background, and resize to what the form wants.
This tool does all of that in one place. Drop in a photo or scan, the paper drops away, faint pen strokes are deepened, the margins are trimmed automatically, and you set the exact pixel size and file size the form specifies — then download.
How to prepare a signature for a form
- Open your signature. Snap or scan your signature on white paper, then drag it onto the tool, choose a file, or paste it.
- Clean it up. Keep 'Remove background' on and nudge the threshold until only the ink shows. Boost faint ink if needed.
- Set the size. Choose the width or fit the form asks for, and a target file size such as 50 KB.
- Download. Save a transparent PNG, or a white-background JPG if the form requires one.
Read the form's requirements first
Look for the accepted dimensions (often given in pixels) and the maximum file size (often 10–50 KB) before you start. Set those exact values in the Resize and Target file size controls so the upload is accepted on the first try.
Signature for a form: what this tool does
- What it does
- Turns a phone photo or scan of your signature into a clean, correctly sized file an online form will accept — background removed, faint ink deepened, margins trimmed, and resized to the exact pixels and KB the form asks for.
- How it works
- The paper is keyed out by brightness (light pixels become transparent, the dark ink stays) with a soft edge so the strokes aren't jagged, a contrast curve deepens pale pen, auto-trim crops to just the ink, and the result is resized and re-encoded to fit your target size.
- Best export
- A transparent PNG when the form allows it, or a white-background JPG when the form requires JPG or a small KB limit — JPG and WebP are the only formats whose quality can be traded down to hit a byte cap, so a KB target switches to JPG flattened onto white.
Practical tips
- Read the form's stated requirements before you start — most list the accepted dimensions in pixels and a maximum file size (commonly 10–50 KB) — then enter those exact values so the upload is accepted on the first try.
- Forms most often reject a signature for being over the size limit or 'not clear', and both are fixed here: trimming and resizing fix the size, removing the paper and boosting the ink fix clarity.
- Sign in dark pen on bright white paper and photograph it in flat, even light; the bigger the brightness gap between ink and paper, the cleaner the cut-out and the smaller the final file.

Frequently asked questions
What format should I upload to a form?
If the form allows PNG, use it to keep a clean transparent background. If it requires JPG, switch the format and add a white background — the tool handles both.
How small does the file need to be?
Many forms cap signatures at 10–50 KB. Use the target-size preset and the tool squeezes the file to fit.
Why is my signature rejected as 'not clear'?
Usually the background paper or shadows confuse the form. Removing the background and boosting the ink fixes it.
Where is my image processed?
The cleanup happens in your browser, so the new file is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
