Rotating JPG photos

JPG is the most common photo format, and a sideways or tilted JPG is one of the most common things people need to fix. This tool turns a JPG in 90° steps, flips it, or straightens a crooked horizon, and exports it back to JPG so it drops straight into wherever you were using it.

Quarter-turn rotations and flips are lossless rearrangements of pixels. JPG itself is a compressed format, so saving re-encodes the file once — keep the quality slider high (around 90) and the result looks identical to the original.

How to rotate a JPG

  1. Open your JPG. Drag it onto the tool, choose a file, or paste it.
  2. Rotate or flip. Use the 90° buttons, the flip buttons, or the angle slider to straighten a tilt.
  3. Keep JPG and download. The output is already set to JPG. Pick a quality, then download.

Keep JPG quality high

Because JPG re-compresses on save, use a quality of about 85–95 to avoid visible artefacts. If you need a perfectly lossless save, switch the output to PNG instead — though the file will be larger.

Will rotating my JPG lose quality?

Turning in 90° steps is lossless, but saving a JPG re-encodes it once. Keep the quality slider high (around 90) and you won't see a difference.

Can I straighten a tilted JPG?

Yes. Use the angle slider to level a crooked horizon; the canvas grows so nothing is cropped, and you can fill the corners with a colour.

Does it stay a JPG?
