When you need a 180° turn
A 180° rotation turns an image completely upside down (or back upright). It's the fix for a photo or scan that came out inverted — common with document scanners, screenshots, and images shared through chat apps.
Like a quarter-turn, a 180° rotation is lossless: the pixels are simply flipped end-over-end. The width and height stay the same, so the file fits exactly where the original did.
How to rotate an image 180 degrees

180° vs flipping
A 180° rotation is not the same as a flip. Rotating 180° turns the image around its centre (text stays readable but upside down); flipping mirrors it (text becomes backwards). Use rotation to fix an inverted photo, and flip to mirror one.
What rotate 180° (turn upside down) does
A 180° rotation is two quarter-turns: every point ends up diametrically opposite where it started, so the image is turned completely upside down. Width and height are unchanged, and direction doesn't matter — clockwise and counter-clockwise give the identical result.
Use it for a photo or scan that came out inverted — common when a page is fed into a scanner the wrong way up, when a phone decides 'up' incorrectly, or for art and patterns that read top-to-bottom the wrong way. Applying 180° again returns the original.

Pro tip
A 180° rotation is not the same as flipping. Rotating keeps text readable (just upside down); flipping mirrors it so letters run backwards. If your goal is a mirror image, use Flip horizontal or Flip vertical instead.
