Why rotate 90 degrees?
Phones and cameras often save a photo sideways, especially when you hold the device at an angle or the orientation tag is wrong. A 90° turn puts it the right way up so it looks correct everywhere — in galleries, documents, and uploads.
A 90° rotation is completely lossless for the pixels: the image is simply turned a quarter-circle, so nothing is stretched, squashed, or blurred. The width and height swap, and that's it.
How to rotate an image 90 degrees

Clockwise vs counter-clockwise
If a photo is lying on its right side, rotate it counter-clockwise (left). If it's on its left side, rotate clockwise (right). The live preview shows you instantly which way is correct.
What rotate 90° (a quarter turn) does
A 90° turn rotates the picture one quarter-turn — clockwise sends the top edge to the right, counter-clockwise sends it to the left — and swaps the image's width and height. Because the canvas grows to fit the turned image, nothing is ever cropped.
This is the fix for a photo shot in portrait that opens on its side: a tall scene saved 90° out, a document or whiteboard photographed sideways, or a frame whose orientation flag a viewer ignored. One quarter-turn stands it upright.

Pro tip

Does rotating 90° lose any quality?
No. A 90° turn just rearranges the existing pixels, so it's lossless. Quality only changes if you re-encode a JPG at a low quality setting.
Can I rotate counter-clockwise too?
