Watermark a PNG without losing transparency
PNG is the format of choice for logos, graphics, and screenshots — largely because it supports a transparent background. When you watermark a PNG, you usually want to keep that transparency intact, so the result drops cleanly onto any background.
This tool watermarks your PNG in the browser and, when you export as PNG (or WebP), preserves the alpha channel — only your watermark and the original opaque pixels show. Add text or a logo, position it, and download a transparent, watermarked PNG.
How to watermark a PNG
- Open your PNG. Drag it in, paste, or choose a file.
- Add text or a logo. Type your watermark, or upload a logo (a transparent PNG is ideal).
- Style and place it. Set opacity, size, and rotation, then drag it or use the grid.
- Export as PNG. Choose PNG (or WebP) to keep the transparent background.
Tip: export as PNG or WebP to keep transparency
If you export as JPG, transparent areas are filled with a background colour because JPG can't store transparency. To keep your PNG transparent, choose PNG or WebP as the output format.
PNG watermark (keeps transparency): what this mode does
Adds a text or logo watermark to a PNG and can export back to PNG so the image's transparent areas stay transparent rather than being filled in.
Controls
- Text or logo mode
- Add a typed mark or upload a logo, the same as on any photo.
- Output format
- Choose PNG or WebP on export to preserve transparency, or JPG when you specifically want a flattened, smaller file.
- Opacity & rotation
- Fade and angle the watermark to suit a logo, sticker, or icon that already has a transparent background.
- Position or tile
- Grid-snap, drag, or tile the watermark over the visible artwork.
Good for
- watermarking a logo or icon PNG without a white box
- branding a transparent sticker or graphic asset
- protecting cut-out product images
- marking UI or design assets before sharing
Tips
- Export as PNG or WebP to keep transparency — saving as JPG fills every transparent pixel with a solid background colour because JPG cannot store an alpha channel.
- PNG is lossless, so re-exporting a watermarked PNG won't add the compression speckles you'd get from repeatedly re-saving a JPG.
- If the file size of a watermarked PNG is large and you don't need transparency, exporting to WebP usually shrinks it considerably while still supporting an alpha channel.
Where is my image processed?
The watermarking happens in your browser, so the finished image is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Will my PNG stay transparent after watermarking?
Yes, as long as you export as PNG or WebP. The tool preserves the alpha channel; only the watermark and the original opaque pixels are visible.
Can I watermark a transparent logo onto a transparent PNG?
Yes. Upload your logo on the Logo tab and export as PNG — both the base image's and the logo's transparency are preserved.
What if I need a solid background instead?
Export as JPG and pick a background colour; the transparent areas fill with that colour.
