Adding text to an image is one of those small jobs that suddenly comes up all the time: labelling a screenshot, captioning a photo for social media, putting a quote over a background, or adding a name and date to a picture. This free tool does it right in your browser — no app to install and nothing to sign up for.

You can add as many separate text layers as you need. Each one has its own font, size, color, outline, drop shadow, rotation, and opacity, and you drag each one into place on the image. When you're done, download the result as a PNG (sharpest text and transparency), a JPG (smallest for photos), or a WebP.

How to add text to an image

  1. Open your image. Drag a photo onto the tool, choose a file, or paste from your clipboard.
  2. Type your text. A text layer appears in the center — type your words into the Text box.
  3. Position it. Drag the text anywhere on the image, or nudge it with the arrow keys.
  4. Style it. Pick a font, color, outline, shadow, size, and rotation.
  5. Add more layers. Add extra text layers for titles, labels, or captions as needed.
  6. Download. Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP and save the finished image to your device.

Questions fréquentes

How do I add text to a picture for free?

Open your image in the tool above, type into the text box, drag the text where you want it, then download. It's free with no watermark and no sign-up.

Can I move the text anywhere on the image?

Yes — drag any text layer directly on the canvas to position it, or select it and use the arrow keys for precise nudging.

Can I use more than one text style on one image?

Yes. Each text layer is independent, so you can mix a big bold title with a small caption in a different font and color on the same image.

Where is my image processed?

Adding the text happens in your browser, so the new image is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
