The US 2 × 2 inch requirement

US passport and visa photos must be 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm) square, with the head between roughly 1 inch and 1⅜ inches tall, on a plain white or off-white background. At 300 DPI that is exactly 600 × 600 pixels — the size this tool produces every time.

Upload a front-facing photo, position your head inside the oval guide so it lands in the correct height range, and the white background is set for you. Download the square photo for an online application, or print a sheet of copies for an in-person submission.

How to make a US passport photo

  1. Upload your photo. A clear, front-facing photo against a plain light wall works best.
  2. US preset is ready. The size is already set to 2 × 2 inch with a white background.
  3. Fit your head. Zoom and drag so the top of your head and your chin meet the guide lines.
  4. Download or print a sheet. Save the 600 × 600 px photo, or tile copies onto a 4 × 6 inch sheet.

Head size matters most

The most common US rejection is the head being too large or too small. Use the oval guide and the crown/chin lines — when your head fills the oval with a little space above it, you are in the correct 1 to 1⅜ inch range.

What size is a US passport photo in pixels?

2 × 2 inches at 300 DPI is 600 × 600 pixels. This tool outputs exactly that.

A plain white or off-white background. The US preset uses white by default; you can fine-tune it if needed.

Can I use this for a US visa or green card photo?

Yes — US visa, green card, and DV lottery photos use the same 2 × 2 inch white-background specification.
