What a 2 × 2 inch photo is for

The 2 × 2 inch square (51 × 51 mm) is the standard for US passports and visas, the Diversity Visa (green card) lottery, and many other US documents. At 300 DPI it is exactly 600 × 600 pixels, which most online portals require — they reject photos that aren't square or are too small.

Upload your photo, fit your head inside the oval guide, pick the background colour your document needs (usually white), and download a perfect 600 × 600 square — or a sheet of copies to print and cut.

How to make a 2 × 2 inch photo

  1. Upload your photo. A front-facing photo against a plain wall works best.
  2. 2 × 2 inch is ready. The square size is set; pick a background colour if needed.
  3. Fit your head. Zoom and drag so your head sits correctly within the guide.
  4. Download or print a sheet. Save the 600 × 600 px square, or print copies on a 4 × 6 inch sheet.

Why 600 × 600 pixels

Online portals check both the shape (must be a perfect square) and the resolution (at least 600 × 600 px). Rendering at 300 DPI for 2 inches gives exactly 600 × 600, so your upload passes the automatic checks.
