Make a QR code in seconds

A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera can read instantly. This generator turns whatever you need — a website link, a Wi-Fi network, plain text, an email, a phone number, or an SMS — into a clean, scannable code you can download and use anywhere.

Every code is static: the content is encoded directly into the pattern, so it works forever, with no redirect, no account, and no expiry. Pick your content type, style it with your own colours, and download a PNG image or a crisp SVG vector.

How to generate a QR code

  1. Pick a content type. Choose Link, Text, Wi-Fi, Email, Phone, or SMS at the top of the generator.
  2. Enter your content. Type the link or details — the preview updates live as you type.
  3. Style it (optional). Set the foreground and background colours, the size, and the quiet-zone margin.
  4. Download. Save it as a PNG image or an SVG vector and use it anywhere.

Test before you print

Always scan your finished code with a couple of phones before printing it large. Keep a good contrast between the foreground and background (dark code on a light background scans best), and leave the quiet-zone margin in place so cameras can lock on.

What a QR code can encode

A QR code stores a short string of text, and a leading prefix tells the scanning phone what to do with it. These are the exact formats this generator writes for each content type:

Content type What gets encoded
Website link (URL) Stored as the raw address, e.g. https://example.com. A bare domain is saved with https:// added; most camera apps open it directly.
Plain text Stored verbatim with no prefix — a note, a code, or a short message. The scanner just shows the text; it doesn't open anything.
Wi-Fi network WIFI:T:WPA;S:<ssid>;P:<password>;; — T is the security type (WPA, WEP, or nopass), S the network name, P the password; add H:true for a hidden SSID. Scanning offers a one-tap join.
Email mailto:name@example.com?subject=…&body=… — opens a pre-filled draft in the default mail app. Subject and body are URL-encoded query parameters.
Phone number tel:+15551234567 — prompts the dialler with the number ready to call. Include the country code (e.g. +1) so it works internationally.
SMS message SMSTO:+15551234567:Your message — opens a new text to that number, pre-filled with the message. (vCard/MECARD contact codes use a different VCARD:/MECARD: format and aren't produced by this tool.)

Picking the right type

  • For a website, the Link type is best because phone cameras open a recognised URL with a single tap, whereas the same address as plain Text is only displayed.
  • Phone, SMS, and email codes use the standard tel:, SMSTO:, and mailto: URI schemes, so they trigger the dialler, messaging, or mail app on essentially every modern phone.
  • Longer content makes a denser code with more modules, which needs to be printed larger to stay scannable — keep URLs short (or use your own short link) for a cleaner pattern.
  • Wi-Fi codes embed the password in plain text inside the image, so treat a printed Wi-Fi QR like a written-down password and don't post it publicly.

Frequently asked questions

Is the QR code generator free?

Yes — completely free, with no watermark and no sign-up. Make and download as many codes as you like.

Will my QR code expire?

No. These are static codes with the content baked into the pattern, so they never expire and need no account.

Can I download a vector (SVG)?

Yes. Download as SVG for a crisp vector that scales to any size, or PNG for a ready-to-use image.

Where is my image processed?

Building or reading a QR code happens in your browser, so the file is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
