Make a solid-colour image
Sometimes you just need a plain block of colour as an image file — a coloured background, a placeholder, a swatch to test a layout, a fill for a video, or a 1×1 tracking-free spacer. This generator makes a solid-colour PNG (or JPG/WebP) at the exact size you specify, in any colour you choose.
Enter a hex code directly, use the colour picker, or tap one of the ready-made swatches. The preview fills with your colour immediately, and the download is the same flat colour at full resolution.
How to create a solid-colour image
- Choose your colour. Type a hex value like #4f46e5, open the colour picker, or tap a swatch.
- Set the size. Enter the width and height in pixels, or pick a preset such as 1080×1080.
- Download. Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP and click Download to save the flat-colour image.
Which format to pick
For a plain colour, PNG and WebP give the smallest, cleanest result and PNG can be transparent if you switch modes. JPG works too but can add faint artefacts around hard edges, so prefer PNG or WebP for flat colour.
What the solid colour image makes
It fills every pixel of the canvas with one flat colour and nothing else — the exported file is a single, uniform block of the colour you pick, at the exact dimensions you set.
Solid-colour controls
- Colour
- Any hex code (e.g. #4f46e5) or the colour picker
- Image size
- Any width × height, 8–8000 px per side
- Export format
- PNG (lossless), JPG (smaller), or WebP
- Transparency
- Solid mode is opaque; use Pattern or Avatar mode for a transparent PNG
What to use it for
- A coloured background or section fill for a page, slide, or video where you need an actual image file rather than a CSS colour.
- A brand swatch or colour reference exported at a known hex so the exact shade can be reused or shared.
- A placeholder or layout-testing block to check spacing and contrast before the real artwork exists.
- A flat fill or matte for compositing, or a small solid tile used as a spacer.
Tip
For a plain colour, PNG and WebP give the smallest, cleanest files because the encoder compresses a single colour almost perfectly. JPG can add faint blocky artefacts even on a flat fill, so prefer PNG or WebP when you need an exact, edge-clean colour.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my own hex code?
Yes. Type any hex value (for example #ff8800) into the hex field, or use the colour picker to dial one in.
What size can the image be?
Any size from 8 px up to 8000 px per side. Use the width and height fields or a preset.
Can I make a transparent image instead?
Solid mode fills with one colour, but the Pattern and Avatar modes let you turn the background transparent and export a transparent PNG.
Where is my image processed?
The image is generated in your browser, so the file is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
