Why fit to A4 first?
Printing an image directly often gives unpredictable margins or an awkward crop. Placing it on a properly sized A4 page first means you control exactly how it sits — centred, with even margins, in portrait or landscape — and the printed result matches what you see.
Choose Contain to keep the whole image with a clean border, Cover to fill the entire page (cropping the overflow), or Actual to print at the image's native size. The output is a one-page A4 PDF, ready to send to any printer.
How to fit an image to A4
- Open your image. Drag a photo onto the tool, choose a file, or paste it.
- It opens on A4. The page starts on the Fit to paper tab with A4 selected. Switch between portrait and landscape to match the photo.
- Choose the fit and margin. Pick Contain, Cover, or Actual, set the margin, and choose a background colour for any border.
- Download the PDF. Click Download PDF and print at A4 size.
Contain vs Cover
Use Contain when you want the entire image visible (you'll get a border on two sides if the aspect ratios differ). Use Cover when you want the page completely filled and don't mind the edges being cropped. Actual size is best when you need an exact physical dimension.

A4 paper sizing tips
- A full-bleed A4 print at 300 DPI is 2480 × 3508 px; 150 DPI (1240 × 1754 px) is the practical floor for a still-acceptable print.
- A4 is part of the ISO 216 series, where halving the long side gives the next size: A3 is two A4s, A5 is half an A4 — all keeping the √2 ratio.
- Because A4 (1 : 1.414) is taller than a 4 × 6 photo (1 : 1.5 is wider than that ratio implies for the short edge), a photo placed on A4 will leave a margin on the short edges unless you crop or use 'cover'.
- Use 'contain' to fit the whole image with a border, or 'cover' to fill the sheet edge-to-edge and crop the overflow.
