The square placeholder

A square (1:1) placeholder is the right shape for anything that needs equal width and height: profile avatars, app and favicon icons, product tiles, and square social media posts. Because the two sides match, a square fits neatly into grids and circular crops.

This page opens already set to a 600×600 square. Type a different size to make a larger or smaller square, change the colours and caption, then download a square PNG or a scalable SVG.

How to make a square placeholder

1. Open the page. The generator starts as a 600 × 600 square.
2. Resize and style. Type any size (the 1:1 preset keeps it square), then set the colours and label.
3. Download. Save it as a square PNG or an SVG that scales to any size.

Common square sizes

Avatars are often 128×128 or 256×256; social posts are commonly 1080×1080; app icons range from 512×512 up to 1024×1024. Tap the 1:1 ratio preset to keep any size perfectly square.
