1280×720 — HD, or '720p' — is a widescreen 16:9 size that's lighter than Full HD while still looking sharp. It's the go-to placeholder for video thumbnails, embedded player frames, blog hero images, and slide backgrounds where file size matters.

Where the 1280 × 720 placeholder is used

  • 1280 × 720 is HD / '720p', the lighter sibling of Full HD; it is a common minimum for video thumbnails (YouTube, for instance, recommends at least 1280 × 720) so it doubles as a thumbnail mock-up.
