Launcher icons at every density
Android phones span many screen densities, so a launcher icon ships at several resolutions. This generator exports ic_launcher.png for mdpi (48), hdpi (72), xhdpi (96), xxhdpi (144), and xxxhdpi (192), plus the 512×512 Play Store icon — each in the right mipmap folder inside the zip.
Set a solid background and padding for a clean adaptive-icon look, then drop each mipmap folder into your project's res/ directory. Generation runs entirely on your device.
How to generate Android icons
- Add your icon art — a high-resolution square PNG or SVG is ideal.
- Choose a background — a solid color reads well as a launcher tile.
- Switch to App icons — the tool renders all mipmap densities plus the Play Store size.
- Download the zip — copy the mipmap-*/ic_launcher.png files into res/, and use play-store-512.png for your listing.
Tip: mind the safe zone
Android adaptive icons crop to circles, squircles, and more depending on the launcher. Keep important detail centered and add padding so nothing essential is clipped.
the Android launcher icon: sizes and where each is used
Android phones span many screen densities, so a launcher icon ships at several resolutions, each in its own mipmap folder, plus a separate Play Store listing icon. These are the densities exported:
| Size | File | Where it's used |
|---|---|---|
| 48 × 48 px (mdpi) | mipmap-mdpi/ic_launcher.png | Baseline-density launcher icon (~160 dpi screens). |
| 72 × 72 px (hdpi) | mipmap-hdpi/ic_launcher.png | High-density launcher icon (~240 dpi). |
| 96 × 96 px (xhdpi) | mipmap-xhdpi/ic_launcher.png | Extra-high-density launcher icon (~320 dpi). |
| 144 × 144 px (xxhdpi) | mipmap-xxhdpi/ic_launcher.png | Extra-extra-high-density launcher icon (~480 dpi). |
| 192 × 192 px (xxxhdpi) | mipmap-xxxhdpi/ic_launcher.png | The highest-density launcher icon for modern flagship screens (~640 dpi). |
| 512 × 512 px | play-store-512.png | The high-resolution icon for the Google Play Store listing, not the app bundle. |
Format & container
Each ic_launcher.png is named and foldered for a native Android project; for the cleanest adaptive-icon look, export from a high-resolution square source with a solid background and a little padding.
How it's wired into your page
mipmap-<density>/ic_launcher.png → matching res/ folder in your project
play-store-512.png → Google Play Console (listing, not the APK/AAB)
Tip
Mind the adaptive-icon safe zone: launchers crop icons to circles, squircles, or rounded squares, so keep important detail centred and add padding so nothing essential gets clipped.

Frequently asked questions
Which Android densities are exported?
mdpi (48), hdpi (72), xhdpi (96), xxhdpi (144), and xxxhdpi (192) px as ic_launcher.png, plus a 512×512 Play Store icon — each in its own folder in the zip.
Where do the files go in my project?
Each mipmap-<density>/ic_launcher.png goes into the matching res/ folder; play-store-512.png is for your Google Play listing, not the app bundle.
Where are the icons generated?
In your browser, on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
Can I also get iOS icons?
Yes — App icons mode exports the full iOS set (40–1024 px) in the same zip alongside the Android files.
