Rescuing dark, underexposed photos
A dark photo — shot indoors, at night, or against a bright background — hides faces and detail in the shadows. Fixing it means lifting those shadows back into view without blowing out the parts that are already bright, then dealing with the noise that low light tends to leave behind.

How to fix a dark photo
- Open your photo. Drag it onto the tool, choose a file, or paste it. Shadow recovery is already applied.
- Recover and clean. Fine-tune Exposure and Brightness to taste, then raise Denoise if grain appears in the lifted shadows.
- Download. Save the corrected image in its original format.
Lift, then denoise
Brightening a dark photo always reveals some hidden noise — that's normal. Lift the exposure until faces and detail are clear, then add just enough Denoise to smooth the grain without making the photo look soft.

How do I fix a dark photo?

Why does my dark photo look grainy after brightening?
Low-light photos hide noise in the shadows; lifting them makes it visible. A small amount of Denoise smooths it back out.
Can I recover a completely black photo?
If an area is pure black, there's no detail to recover. Brightening works when the shadows still hold some information, which is true of most underexposed shots.
