Why deskewing matters
A scan or photo that's even a few degrees off looks careless and is harder to read — and skewed text trips up OCR (text-recognition) tools. Deskewing rotates and squares the page so lines of text are truly horizontal and the margins are straight.
This tool deskews by letting you set the document's four corners — automatically on open, or by hand — and then mapping them to a level rectangle. That fixes both a simple tilt and the more complex slant you get from an angled photo, in one step.
How to deskew an image
- Add the image. Drag in the skewed scan or photo, choose a file, or paste it. Edges are detected automatically.
- Align the corners. Confirm the four handles sit on the page corners; drag to fine-tune.
- Straighten. The page is remapped level. Apply Black & White or Magic to clean it up for OCR.
- Download. Save the straightened result as a PNG or PDF.
Deskew before OCR
If you plan to run text recognition on the document, deskew it first and use the Black & White filter. Level lines and high contrast give OCR engines the cleanest input, which noticeably improves how accurately the text is read.

Frequently asked questions
What does deskew mean?
Deskewing straightens a tilted or slanted image so horizontal lines (like rows of text) become truly level and the page sits square.
How is deskew different from rotate?
A plain rotate turns the whole image by an angle. Deskew here also squares the page via its four corners, fixing slant from an angled photo, not just a flat tilt.
Does deskewing help OCR?
Yes. Text-recognition tools are far more accurate on level, high-contrast pages, so deskewing (plus the Black & White filter) is a great pre-OCR step.
Where is my image processed?
The scan is created in your browser, so the new file is created on your own device. How any data associated with the tool is handled is described in our privacy policy.
